Automobile Accident Advice
If you are involved in an auto accident, there a few simple things you should know in order to protect your legal rights.  You don't have to be a seasoned trial lawyer to follow a few simple steps to protect yourself.

Don't leave the scene.  Stay there until the police and emergency personnel arrive.  It's a crime to leave the scene of an accident in Missouri.  You can also lose your drivers license.  Leaving the scene of an accident will destroy your credibility as a potential witness later on down the road.  People who leave the scene of an accident often do so for less-than-noble reasons.  Don't do it.

Call the Law.  Even if there are no injuries, it is a good idea to call the police to investigate the accident.  You may need a police report or a motor vehicle accident report later on to make an insurance claim.  Having the police investigate the accident and interview the parties involved is critical for proving who was at fault.  Be sure to ask the police officer for a card with his name and the report number for your particular incident.  If there are other witnesses at the scene, make sure to tell the police and get their contact information.

Loose Lips Sink Ships.
If you are injured, don't talk to anyone about your accident other than the police, your attorney, and your insurance company.  Any statements made to the other parties involved in the accident can be used as evidence by sneaky insurance adjusters to cheat you out of compensation.

Talking to the other guy's insurance company is always a bad idea.  If the other driver's insurance company contacts you, politely decline to speak with them.  Tell them you have a lawyer.  Insurance adjusters will often contact you on the very same day as the accident to get you to agree to a quick, and unfair, settlement.   Insurance companies win when they pay an injured party as little as possible.  So when an insurance adjuster calls, just lawyer up.
